The Colectivo Madre Tierra after the devastating earthquake in April 2016 started creating a safe place for families who had lost their homes and had little opportunity to feed or protect their families. VSI is working with the staff to add in the families daily routines, small positive talking points about family violence. This approach has worked in other countries and will strengthen families. Large natural disasters exacerbate the violence toward women which was already happening prior to the earthquake. Over thirty families are living in the community. Acrobats and performers were brought to the shelter to bring smiles to the children and adults. Please feel free to contact them and learn more about what they have planned.
